10 reasons you should elope

After doing this for almost 5 years we can tell you we know, right now, while you’re sitting contemplating an elopement, a few things may be overwhelming you. Eloping is much easier than you think.

Some couples contact us at the very first thought of eloping, some without even telling their partner yet let alone their family. Like eloping is some dirty word or thing that should be researched late at night in secret.

We promise you that feeling is more than normal, because we have all spent our lives being told by our parents or older siblings what a wedding should be. We even did that for our own weddings and if we had our chance again we would change things for sure. Especially now we have seen first hand how amazing elopements and micro weddings can be.

Lets be honest, the pandemic has paved the way for many couples to elope without the drama or judgement of others, in a way its the ultimate excuse to do whatever you want to do.

We may be bias, but eloping is freakin awesome, and we’re super happy the rest of the world is catching onto that now.

As micro wedding and elopement specialists with over 300 intimate weddings under our belt, we have compiled 10 reasons you should elope, here they are…

  1. The rules are there are no rules

In fact when you elope, you can throw the rule book right out the window. There is something adventurous and fun in that, you can create (hopefully with someone like us) something really magical and personal for you both.

2. It’s an introverts delight

You don’t have to stand up in front of your family and friends (and Uncle Bob that Mum insists comes to the wedding) and say your personal vows. You get to do that with just the two of you and your celebrant and photographer present. Introverts love this!

3. You keep that moment for yourselves

When you elope, you have that moment, just the two of you, to yourselves. Thats a very special thing. Then through your photos (and video) you can choose to share only what you wish to with your family and friends. You have those memories and moments just to you both.

4. Your elopement, your choice

You can make it an hour or a whole day of it, the adventure of eloping is only limited to whats important to you both. That may be standing on a clifftop in the bush or saying a quick I do’s then having next level food at your favourite special restaurant, pick your own adventure.

5. Elope in secret, or not

You can do it in secret. It feels a bit naughty and fun and there is then a number of ways you can announce it to your family and friends. Some couples have a party afterwards, call it their engagement party and pop a projector up during speeches and share their film or a photo slideshow and watch the surprised faces and joyful tears flow. Others quietly announce it on socials. Some tell their families before the day. Again, no rules apply, you can do this any way you like.

6. Travel to somewhere magical

With international travel being limited there are some amazing placed in Australia you can elope, without worrying about others you have the flexibility to travel to far flung places, remote or otherwise, we are truly lucky with the backdrop we have in this country for elopements

7. Elope + buy the house, or travel, have your wedding cake + eat it too

With eloping you will be spending about 1/10th of the cost of a large wedding. You can renovate the house or travel, or whatever you please AND still get married in a special way. Eloping gives you the best of both worlds if dropping 50k on a big wedding isn’t your thing.

8. Avoid the family drama (and the seating chart)

We wish this wasn’t a thing but unfortunately for some couples it is.

By eloping you can avoid the difficult questions and convos and just do what makes you both happy without worrying about family dynamics, not that you should have to.

9. Flexibility + less risk

Eloping allows you to be fully flexible in your plans. If you need to last minute (courtesy of a snap lockdown), change your date to something else, you can move it to one that suits in the nearest possible availability.
We work really closely with our couples to change date alongside them. We can vouch either way, it’s much easier to change the plans of two people than it is for 140.

It’s also less risky to place a deposit down for an elopement for two than it is to place multiple deposits down with multiple suppliers that equal a lot more. Having the sort of larger wedding cash tied up mid pandemic is less than ideal, eloping eliminates that risk and allows you agility to change things with whatever restrictions are in place at the time.

Eloping will allow you to have your wedding sooner. Given at some stages over the past 18 months we have had caps of weddings for 5/10 and 20, elopement couples have been able to have their day when larger weddings and even some micro weddings have been banned.

10. No regrets

You will never regret it. Every couple we have created intimate weddings for in the past almost 5 years have absolutely loved being married this way. It is very special and a privilege we fell very lucky to be a part of. Even though your elopement is small on scale, its always big on heart.

Whatever your reasons are, eloping isn’t what it used to be. It’s a purely legitimate and super fun way to be married as you wish. It’s natural for parents to have a different opinion to you on this, they come from a different time when eloping meant a different thing.

Not many couples realise, by eloping or having a micro wedding you could be married in less than 5 weeks! You don’t need to wait a year to have the day you want.

We can easily make this happen without you having to worry about anything other than buying your outfits and turning up. Easy peasy, and beautiful.
